Cheats Are Enabled by Default in Retold

Age of Mythology Retold does not require a debug mode or config file change to use cheat codes. Unlike some classic RTS titles, cheats are available immediately in any single-player session.

The original Age of Mythology required cheats to be enabled in some configurations. Retold simplifies this — if you are in single-player, you can type codes right away.

When Cheats Are Disabled

AOM Retold cheats will not work in these situations:

  • Multiplayer matches — ranked, unranked, or LAN
  • The demo version of the game
  • Some custom scenarios with cheats explicitly disabled by the map author
  • Typing codes in the lobby before a match starts

Quick Fix Checklist

If your Age of Mythology cheat codes are not working, verify each item:

  • Confirm you own the full Retold release, not the demo.
  • Start a single-player skirmish — not multiplayer.
  • Press Enter, type the code, press Enter again.
  • Check you are using Retold codes (case-insensitive) vs classic EE codes (CAPS required).
  • Restart the game if a previous multiplayer session left cheat flags disabled.
